Sant'Anastasia – A gesture of filial affection turned into a death trap. Thus, at just 48 years old, Maurizio Di Costanzo died from a fatal electric shock while at his mother's home.

The tragedy occurred at Via Castiello 119, in the municipality of Sant'Anastasia, leaving two communities in shock: the Campania community, where the man was visiting, and the community of Ponticino (Arezzo), where he lived permanently with his family.

The dynamics of the accident

According to an initial reconstruction by investigators, Di Costanzo had gone to his elderly mother's home to help her with some domestic problems. The tragedy occurred while the 48-year-old was inspecting a cavity in the apartment: suddenly, perhaps due to an accidental contact or a hidden fault in the electrical line, he was struck by a high-voltage discharge that left him with no escape.

Emergency services and the Carabinieri from the Sant'Anastasia station arrived immediately, but there was nothing more that could be done for the man. At this time, the incident has not been classified as an accident at work, as it was a private maintenance job for a family.

The investigation and the dark points

Despite the domestic nature of the incident, the judiciary intends to investigate further. The judicial authorities have ordered the seizure of the body, temporarily halting the funeral to allow for an autopsy and the necessary technical tests.

The investigation, entrusted to the Carabinieri, will determine whether Di Costanzo's death was a tragic accident or whether third parties were responsible, perhaps related to the safety of the electrical system or previous non-compliant work. Only technical investigations will be able to clarify what triggered the fatal discharge inside that cavity.

The pain between Arezzo and Naples

News of Maurizio's death quickly spread throughout the Arezzo area, arriving like a bolt from the blue in Ponticino, a hamlet of Laterina Pergine Valdarno. Di Costanzo was a pillar of the local community: described as a generous and helpful man, he was deeply involved in the activities of the parish and the Arezzo Caritas.

Maurizio leaves behind his wife, an employee at the Arezzo hospital, and two young children, ages 12 and 9. "A model family," tearfully repeat Tuscan friends and acquaintances, who had seen him at Mass in town just last Sunday. No one could have imagined that the trip to Naples, made to help his mother, would be his last.

What happened to Maurizio Di Costanzo is truly tragic. I don't understand how something like this could happen in a home. Families should be places of safety, not mortal danger. The issue of electrical safety must be taken seriously.
