Naples looks to 2026 with a renovated Largo Maradona. The City Council, led by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi, has approved the GK10 project to redevelop the iconic Spanish Quarter area, transforming the mural dedicated to Diego Armando Maradona into a cultural hub accessible to residents, fans, and tourists.

Conceived by Giuseppe Klain, the project goes beyond preserving the mural: it regenerates the urban space in front of it into a well-organized plaza, integrated into the city's fabric. Antonio Esposito, known as "Bostik," remains the key player, the custodian of the Maradonian memory that has made the site a global symbol of football and Naples.

The project and funding

Sponsored by IDIR SPA, owned by the Monzeglio family (Sergio, Emanuele, and Alessandro), GK10 is a model of public-private partnership. "It was born out of respect for a place of collective memory," explains Klain, "where private individuals work alongside institutions to protect the city's symbols."

The area will become an open-air museum: urban decor combined with popular culture, with new architectural elements, modern materials, and lighting designed to enhance the murals.

Sustainability and international hub

Focus on livability and sustainability: multimedia installations will connect Largo Maradona to Maradona fans around the world, balancing tourism with the daily lives of residents. The project respects the neighborhood, improving traffic flows and decor without altering its identity.

The words of Manfredi and Armato

"We're restoring order to an icon," says Mayor Manfredi, "by transforming a private area into a safe, community space, with modern management." Tourism Councilor Teresa Armato adds: "A must-see for global tourists, now with a welcoming atmosphere to match: a calling card that combines sporting devotion and respect for the area."
