Meifang Zaho, a 66-year-old Chinese woman, has been on the run in Milan. She had been wanted for over four years and had been subject to a detention order issued by the Court of Naples in 2021. The woman was tracked down by Carabinieri investigative units from Naples and Milan following an investigation that led to her location on Via Imbonati in the Lombardy capital.
She was facing a final sentence of three years, nine months, and twenty-six days in prison. The convictions relate to violations of prostitution laws and one count of evasion. The cumulative sentences also include an order issued in 2014 by the investigating judge of the Northern Naples Court.
According to investigators' reconstruction of the proceedings that led to the sentencing, the 66-year-old was allegedly held responsible for running a brothel in Aversa, in the Caserta area. Investigations at the time revealed a system of recruiting women who were deceptively offered jobs at a beauty salon, which later turned out to be a cover for prostitution.
After her arrest, the woman was taken to Milan's San Vittore prison, where she will serve the sentence set by the judicial authorities. The operation is the result of collaboration between the Carabinieri's investigative units, which have long been engaged in tracking down recipients of restrictive measures who have escaped enforcement.
