Macerata, Campania – Precautionary measures weren't enough to stop him, nor did the electronic device on his ankle dissuade him. It was a night of terror in Macerata, Campania, where the spiral of gender-based violence threatened to add another tragic chapter to the local news.
Carabinieri officers from the local station arrested a 42-year-old local man, accused of flagrantly violating the provisions protecting his ex-wife and physically assaulting her.
Violation of the prohibitions
The man was not a new face to law enforcement, nor was his family situation unfamiliar to investigators. The 42-year-old was already subject to severe restrictive measures: removal from the family home and a ban on approaching places frequented by the victim.
To ensure compliance with these provisions, the judicial authorities also ordered the application of an electronic bracelet. Furthermore, the man was placed under special surveillance with an obligation to remain in the country, a situation that already suggests a well-established danger to society.
The dynamics of the aggression
Despite this judicial "security cordon," during the night the suspect decided to break all the rules. According to the military's reconstruction, the man went to his ex-wife. The meeting, far from peaceful, quickly degenerated into physical violence.
Details about the woman's health have not yet been released, but the man's actions confirm the difficulty, often encountered, in containing individuals determined to repeat violent behavior despite electronic monitoring.
The intervention and the arrest
The intervention of the Carabinieri from the Macerata Campania station was providential. Alerted to the situation, the officers quickly arrived on the scene and managed to subdue the attacker before the situation could escalate further.
The man was immediately arrested for violating the orders. By order of the magistrate on duty, the 42-year-old was placed under house arrest pending his appearance before a judge for the summary hearing, which will be held in the next few hours.
Investigators remain vigilant to ensure the victim's safety in the Caserta area, where the force is constantly engaged in combating "code red" crimes.

The incident described is deeply troubling and raises questions about the true effectiveness of precautionary measures. Unfortunately, even electronic bracelets cannot guarantee the victims' safety. A more effective intervention is needed.
