SUM MASS – The cover of darkness and an old-fashioned hiding place weren't enough to avoid charges. A 40-year-old man, already known to law enforcement, ended up in trouble after a late-night raid inside the Massa di Somma town hall, which ended with a clumsy attempt to evade security.

The Night Raid and the Loot

The attack took place in the middle of the night. The man managed to force open the entrance door of the municipal building, heading decisively toward the Civil Protection and Registry offices. Once inside, he forced open the cash register, taking approximately 300 euros in cash, then quickly disappears, convinced he'd gotten away with it.

Betrayed by the cameras

The thief's plans were ruined by the electronic "eyes" in the area. Surveillance video footage captured the 40-year-old during the robbery, allowing the Carabinieri station to San Sebastiano al Vesuvioto identify him within a few hours. For the military, expert in the area, that face was nothing new.

The hiding place in the mattress

The most surreal moment of the story occurred when the Carabinieri arrived at the man's home. As soon as the officers knocked on the door and identified themselves, the 40-year-old—perhaps inspired by a recent arrest in Naples in a similar manner—tried a last, desperate move: lifting the mattress and curling up inside. double bed chest of drawers.

The "classic" hiding place, however, did not fool the officers, who immediately identified him. The man was reported at large and will now have to answer for the crimes of theft and damage.

It's incredible how anyone could think to escape the law this way. Perhaps the man didn't realize that cameras are everywhere. Anyway, I hope he learns his lesson and doesn't do it again.
