Mondragone awoke in shock to yet another bloody episode. On the night between January 29th and 30th, on Via Gorizia, a 48-year-old man was struck by two bullets in the legs in what investigators believe to be a targeted attack.
The shooting occurred in the middle of the night, likely while the victim was on the street. The shots—fired with a pistol—struck the victim's lower limbs, but did not affect any vital organs.
Immediate assistance and transfer to the clinic
The alarm was raised quickly, allowing emergency medical services to intervene promptly. The 48-year-old was stabilized on site and rushed to the Pineta Grande clinic, a health facility near the attack site. There, doctors provided him with initial treatment.
His condition, while requiring constant monitoring, is not currently a cause for particular concern: the man's life is not in danger. The Carabinieri are conducting a comprehensive investigation.
Carabinieri officers from the Mondragone Territorial Unit responded to the scene in force, carrying out the necessary investigations and securing the area for several hours. Investigators are working quickly: acquiring and analyzing public and private video surveillance footage in the area;
search for eyewitnesses or people who may have noticed suspicious movements or the escape of those responsible;
reconstruction of the exact dynamics of the ambush.
At this time, the investigation is strictly confidential. No investigative hypothesis has been ruled out: it ranges from personal disagreements to possible settling of scores in more complex and deeply rooted contexts.
Via Gorizia was kept under military surveillance for a long time to gather any useful leads. The goal is to name and identify the perpetrators of a night that brought Mondragone back to the spotlight for yet another incident of armed violence.
