He thought he'd found the perfect opportunity to get his car back on the road, but instead he found himself without an engine and a thousand euros short. This is the misadventure of a motorist from Montoro, in the province of Avellino, who fell victim to an online scam.

The man had responded to an ad posted on an online marketplace offering a car engine at a supposedly reasonable price. The seller introduced herself as the owner of a company specializing in the resale of mechanical parts, reassuring her that the transaction was legitimate. After contacting the seller, the victim wired a thousand euros, believing he was making a legitimate purchase.

The engine, however, never arrived. At that point, the buyer realized he had been scammed and contacted the Carabinieri, filing a complaint. The investigations launched by the Carabinieri allowed them to identify the woman who had posted the ad and who had pretended to be a motoring entrepreneur.

The alleged scammer has been identified and reported. The incident refocuses attention on the risks of online shopping and the importance of carefully verifying the trustworthiness of sellers, especially when advertisements hide non-existent companies and promises that vanish after one click.
