Mugnano di Napoli – A drug stash hidden within the walls of a home, ready to supply drug dealing hubs in the area north of Naples.
This is what the Carabinieri of the Marano operational unit discovered, who, thanks to the unerring nose of their canine units, dealt a heavy blow to local drug trafficking by arresting Stefano Foria, a 48-year-old from Mugnano already known to the police.
The operation was launched almost by chance, but it resulted in a massive seizure. It all began among the stalls of the Melito fruit and vegetable market, where the military intercepted Foria.
The man, subject to special surveillance and required to reside in the municipality of Mugnano, was outside the permitted boundaries, in clear violation of the restrictions imposed by the judicial authorities.
The street check, however, was just the beginning. Suspicious of the man's behavior and his prior history, investigators decided to extend the search to his home in Mugnano, with the crucial support of the Sarno Dog Unit.
Once inside the apartment, the drug-sniffing dogs immediately detected the presence of illegal substances. Their hunch proved correct: hidden in large plastic bags, they discovered 8.3 kg of marijuana.
Continuing the search, the officers also found 6 kilos of hashish, divided into blocks yet to be cut and packaged for retail sale.
In total, over 14 kilograms of drugs were seized, which, if released on the market, would have generated tens of thousands of euros and flooded the province's streets. Foria was immediately arrested on charges of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and violation of special surveillance obligations. The 48-year-old was transferred to prison, where he remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities awaiting trial.
