Naples – The crime alert in Naples' historic center continues, but law enforcement responded immediately. Yesterday evening, Mobile Squad officers arrested two young Neapolitans, aged 18 and 15, charged with conspiracy to commit theft.
The coup and the attempted encore
The dynamics, reconstructed by investigators, describe an evening raid through the shopping and tourist areas. The two, riding a scooter, had already struck on Via Duomo, where in a lightning-fast move they snatched a tourist's cell phone. Not satisfied with their loot, they moved toward Corso Umberto I in search of a second victim.
This is where the "Falchi" (hawks) came into action. Plainclothes officers, engaged in a counter-crime operation, noticed the two suspects as they attempted to approach a woman to steal her smartphone.
The chase and the capture
Police intervention was immediate. Upon seeing the patrols, the young men attempted to flee into the alleys, resulting in a brief but frantic chase that ended on Via Saverio Baldacchini. Once stopped and searched, the two were found in possession of another cell phone, the provenance of which they were unable to identify.
Quick investigations led to the identification of the rightful owner: the tourist who had been robbed a few blocks away. The smartphone was returned to the man, while the two young men were arrested.
The arrest confirms the Naples Police Headquarters' utmost attention to security in areas with the highest tourist influx, where the constant presence of the Falcons continues to be the main deterrent against petty crime.

Yes, it's true that the police do a lot, but thieves always seem one step ahead. We need to find a more effective solution to stop these crimes in Naples' historic center.
Naples is a terrible place with so many thefts, and the police are doing their job, but I don't know if it's enough. These young people should think about doing better things than stealing from tourists.
