An operation by the Naples Local Police led to the seizure of five illegal outdoor seating areas in Piazza Carlo III, where structures authorized as lightweight and easily dismantled had been transformed into permanent structures. Officers from the San Lorenzo Task Force, supported by the Avvocata, Secondigliano, and Scampia Task Forces, determined that the structures, ranging in size from 32 to 48 square meters, featured platforms permanently anchored to the ground, completely enclosed spaces, and unauthorized lighting and air conditioning systems.
The affected area is subject to urban planning and landscape restrictions, and the non-conformities detected also constitute landscape-related crimes, as required by the regulations on the protection of historical and architectural heritage. The structures were seized and placed in judicial custody, while the documents were forwarded to the judicial authorities to determine liability.
The City of Naples emphasized that the intervention is part of a broader plan to protect urban decorum and legality, aimed at ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding the city's historical heritage. It noted that incidents of this kind compromise not only the urban layout but also the perception of safety and order in the city's busiest areas.

It's important that the authorities take action against abuses like this. However, I believe there's also a need for greater oversight before such situations arise. Citizen safety should be the priority in these matters.
