Naples – A new phase of inspections has begun on public establishments and entertainment venues in the Naples metropolitan area. Following the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety on January 21, Prefect Michele di Bari issued two separate circulars, one addressed to the mayors of the metropolitan area and the other to law enforcement agencies, including the Provincial Fire Brigade Command.
The decision follows a discussion involving the judicial authorities, provincial police officers, firefighters, representatives of public businesses, the Labor Inspectorate, and all other relevant institutions.
The provisions follow the directive issued on January 19 by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, which called for intensified checks on entertainment businesses, especially preventive measures, to protect the public safety of workers and patrons.
The prefectural circulars primarily focus on the inspection and verification of establishments authorized to serve food and beverages that also operate entertainment or public performances without the required permits. Mayors have been asked to submit a list of venues used for public entertainment in their respective territories, certifying that the facilities remain in good standing.
Local administrators will also be required to conduct targeted inspections to ensure, promptly and systematically, compliance with the requirements set forth in the building's certificates of habitability and the proper functioning of safety devices.
Any critical issues must be reported immediately to allow, in coordination with all competent bodies, the adoption of the most appropriate preventive measures and, in cases of irregularities, measures to protect public and private safety.
The checks, both administrative and technical, will be entrusted to mixed teams coordinated by the Prefecture, composed of personnel from the police force, the Fire Brigade, the Labor Inspectorate, the Local Health Authorities, and local police forces.
At the same time, the circular addressed to law enforcement and the Provincial Fire Brigade Command orders increased surveillance of public entertainment venues and public establishments to ensure full compliance with industry regulations and combat any unauthorized practices.
Specifically, in consultation with the competent local prosecutors, it will be necessary to determine whether the complementary activities performed by bars and restaurants are prevalent, effectively constituting public entertainment and thus subject to more stringent regulations. If irregularities are identified, appropriate measures will be taken to combat unauthorized establishments.
Finally, the Prefecture remains vigilant in implementing the planned measures, aiming to ensure legality and safety and prevent any potential risks for citizens and industry professionals.
