Naples – The State Police's pressure on the city's drug dealing hubs continues. Yesterday afternoon, officers from the Office of General Prevention and Public Aid arrested an 18-year-old Egyptian man, already known to law enforcement, during a patrol ordered by the Naples Police Headquarters along Corso Umberto I.
The intervention was triggered when the police noticed the young man engaged in a suspicious exchange: handing over a package for a banknote. While the buyer quickly disappeared into the crowd, the 18-year-old was immediately targeted by the officers.
The escape and the struggle. In an attempt to escape, the young man engaged in a brief but frantic foot chase. Once caught, he put up a determined fight, engaging in a scuffle with the officers in an attempt to regain his freedom. However, his resistance was in vain: the officers, despite the difficulties, managed to subdue him and secure him.
The subsequent search confirmed the officers' suspicions. The young man was found in possession of:
10 wraps of hashish, ready to be placed on the market;
A switchblade knife with a 5cm blade;
225 euros in cash, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity.
The 18-year-old was arrested on charges of illegal possession of narcotics, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official. He was also charged at large with illegal possession of weapons and objects intended to cause harm. The operation is part of the extraordinary measures implemented by the Police Headquarters to combat urban decay and drug trafficking along the main thoroughfares of the Campania capital.
Naples: Queues of onlookers and evacuees line the Sannazaro Theater, destroyed by fire.
The day after the fire, a silence filled with disbelief reigns in front of the Sannazaro Theater. On Via Chiaia, in the heart of Naples, curious onlookers, tourists, journalists, and residents stand in a huddle, gazing at the remains of one of the city's cultural symbols, devastated by the flames.
Firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the night to quell the remaining fumaroles and secure the area. This morning, two teams are still engaged in cleanup operations, which will continue throughout the day and, most likely, into tomorrow. The goal is to eliminate any remaining sources of fire and verify the stability of the structure.
Naples, man dies after surgery: half a million in compensation for his family
Compensation exceeding €500 for the death of a patient undergoing fatal surgery was awarded by the Court of Naples, which found a facility within the Naples Local Health Authority (ASL) guilty of serious medical negligence in its handling of the case.
According to the court's findings, the man had undergone abdominal surgery that was deemed incorrectly indicated and performed with critical surgical procedures. This was compounded by post-operative management described as "severely deficient." The patient subsequently developed severe metabolic decompensation that preceded his death.
