Naples – A 38-year-old Neapolitan man's expert burglar kit wasn't enough to get away with his crime. Yesterday morning, he was arrested on charges of aggravated theft and criminal damage after a turbulent incident on Via Galileo Ferraris.

The attempted escape and the intervention of the crowd

The operation wasn't triggered by the patrols alone, but by the reaction of those present. Officers from the Torre Annunziata Railway Police Subsection, during a routine patrol, noticed a group of people forcefully attempting to detain a man. The cries of the witnesses left no doubt: the 38-year-old had just struck a car parked nearby.

The blitz and the kidnapping

The timely intervention of the railway police, supported by their colleagues from the Vasto-Arenaccia police station who arrived immediately on the scene, allowed them to immobilize the suspect. The search confirmed their suspicions: inside a backpack, the man was hiding the recently stolen stereo and several tools used to force open the vehicle door.

After assessing the damage to the car, the officers returned the stolen goods to the visibly relieved owner. The 38-year-old, already known to law enforcement for specific crimes, was arrested. The incident once again underscores the importance of collaboration between citizens and police in ensuring urban safety.
