Naples paralyzed by rain, the asphalt giving way: Via Acton is on its knees.

A single storm is enough to disrupt the city's traffic system: potholes, flooding, and diverted traffic are rekindling concerns about the fragility of the roads following recent roadworks.

Naples is once again held up by the rain, and once again the road network is failing. A single night of heavy rainfall is enough to transform one of the city's most important arteries into an obstacle course, exposing chronic problems.

At dawn today, Via Acton – a strategic road that connects Via Marina to the Riviera di Chiaia, passing through the Tunnel della Vittoria – had its asphalt torn away in several places and large sections flooded.

Dozens of potholes along the roadway forced drivers to proceed at a crawl to avoid damage to their vehicles. At one particularly critical point, floodwaters forced the intervention of the Municipal Police, who restricted traffic to a single lane. The result was immediate: long queues, slowdowns, and traffic gridlock in the city center.

A repeating scenario that once again highlights the vulnerability of Naples' road system, unable to withstand even mild weather events. Via Acton, moreover, had recently undergone repaving work: work that had already shown signs of water tightness from the very beginning and which now, under the pressure of the water, reveals its full precariousness.

Rain thus becomes the trigger for a structural emergency: roads that collapse, construction sites that fail to hold up over time, and maintenance that appears inadequate given the complexity and intensity of the city's traffic. With bad weather, Naples once again faces a fragile road network, where every storm threatens to disrupt urban mobility.

I read that Naples is having problems with rain and roads again; this is a long-standing problem. Long-term work is needed, because we can't continue to live in these conditions.
