Naples – A new episode of violence has occurred in the heart of the city, just steps from the Federico II hospital and the central train station. During the night, Carabinieri officers from the Naples Central Company responded to Piazza Carità for a presumably predatory attack.

A 36-year-old Peruvian man with no fixed abode was stabbed in the side by an unknown assailant and then rescued and transported to the nearby Pellegrini Hospital. According to initial reports, his condition required a seven-day prognosis.

The details of the incident, which are still being reconstructed, appear to be related to an attempted robbery. The attacker, after striking the victim, apparently fled without leaving any immediate traces. The Carabinieri Operations Unit has begun investigating the scene, seeking witnesses and video surveillance footage that could identify the assailant.

An intervention that feels like déjà vu. The incident takes on added gravity because it is the second intervention in a short time by the same Carabinieri Company in the Pellegrini area, raising questions about safety in a highly frequented area with a significant presence of vulnerable people.

The square, named after Carabinieri hero Salvo D'Acquisto, has thus become yet another hotbed of social distress and street crime. The incident has refocused attention on the phenomenon of urban decay and the perceived safety of downtown Naples, where housing shortages, poverty, and petty crime often intertwine.

A few hours earlier, in fact, a group of minors had attacked and beaten other children of their age after a splash of beer ended up on the shoe of a boy in the area. assaulted they were treated at the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital.

Investigations continue to identify the man who struck the gun. Meanwhile, the story of the injured 36-year-old Peruvian man adds to the narrative of a city that, amidst light and shadow, continues to grapple with its deepest wounds.

The violent incident that occurred in Piazza Carità is deeply concerning. We hope the authorities can resolve the situation and find the perpetrator, but it's not the first time it's happened there. Safety must be a priority.
