Police stop a fleeing thief in the heart of Naples: a car was damaged and stolen goods recovered, the nightmare of serial thefts returns.
Yesterday afternoon, officers from the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station, during a patrol, were alerted to a young man chasing a 39-year-old Neapolitan man armed with two suitcases. The thief, with a criminal record for theft and damage, was identified as the perpetrator.
Stolen goods and tools of the trade
The police responded quickly, apprehending the suspect on Corso Garibaldi. Six screwdrivers of various sizes, typical break-in tools, were found on the 39-year-old. Shortly before, the suspect had broken into a parked car, removing suitcases from the passenger compartment.
Arrest and stolen goods returned
The man was arrested on the spot for aggravated theft and criminal damage. The stolen goods were immediately returned to their rightful owner, preventing further damage in an area already plagued by opportunistic thefts.

This is a situation that unfortunately happens often in the center of Naples; it seems the thefts never end. It's right that the police intervene, but we need more street safety, because citizens need to feel protected.
