Via Caravaggio is now passable again. The Naples arterial road, closed in recent days due to the collapse of a sewer pipe that caused dangerous road disruption, will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday, January 14, starting at 2:00 PM. This announcement comes from ABC, the water company of the City of Naples, which is completing the repair and safety measures.
The work, the company explains, was completed ahead of schedule, despite the adverse weather conditions that accompanied the operations. The project involved rebuilding the collapsed wall of the sewer collector, filling the void created under the roadway with lightweight concrete, and repairing the road surface, over which a temporary binder was placed pending the final paving.
In parallel with the repairs, ABC began extensive and thorough inspections of the entire sewer infrastructure in the affected section. The inspections, conducted with the aid of robots equipped with video inspection systems, identified a further potential critical area approximately fifty meters from the point of failure, a situation that could have turned into a new sinkhole if not detected promptly.
Once the ongoing operations are completed, the water company will quickly begin a new construction site on the identified stretch, including the implementation of an alternating one-way system to minimize traffic disruption and ensure the safety of residents and infrastructure. The goal, ABC assures, is to intervene proactively to avoid further emergencies and restore stability to a strategic road for the city's traffic.
