On an evening that seemed destined for tragedy, the courage of the Avellino Carabinieri transformed fear into hope, intervening promptly to save a newborn baby in respiratory distress, a gesture that reminds us of the importance of solidarity in times of emergency.
Avellino – An evening that could have turned tragic ended happily thanks to the timely intervention of the Avellino Carabinieri. The victim was a two-month-old baby who suffered a severe respiratory crisis while riding in the car with his parents, who were stuck in city traffic.
Requesting help in traffic
The emergency began a few evenings ago in Mercogliano, on the outskirts of the Irpinia capital. A young mother, stranded by traffic congestion, urgently contacted the Carabinieri Operations Center to report the critical condition of her infant son. The child was experiencing serious breathing difficulties and required immediate medical attention.
The dispatcher immediately understood the gravity of the situation and called 118. Meanwhile, the car carrying the family stopped on the city road, where a patrol car from the Mobile Radio Unit was carrying out a routine traffic control.
The intervention of the Radiomobile
The woman, visibly shaken, approached the officers, desperately pleading for help. The Carabinieri, noting the child's critical condition and the mother's severe agitation, wasted no time: they put both of them in the service car and rushed them to the emergency room of the San Giuseppe Moscati Hospital in Avellino, which had already been alerted.
The race against time ended successfully. Upon arrival at the hospital, the newborn was immediately taken care of by medical staff. After a few days of hospitalization and the emergency phase over, the baby was able to return home with his parents.
The family publicly expressed their gratitude to the Carabinieri, and in particular to the Mobile Radio Unit officers who responded, praising their prompt response, professionalism, and sense of duty at such a delicate time.
