The Turin refereeing case has come under the scrutiny of "Open VAR" and reignited controversy. The incident involving Bremer and Hojlund in the Juventus penalty area is particularly controversial, a matter judged harshly by Dino Tommasi, a former referee and current member of the Can (Canal Referee), who spoke on the DAZN program. "Bremer puts both hands around Hojlund's neck, holds him back with his left arm, and takes him to the ground. The challenge is definitely a foul, and there's a clear element of foul intent in the hold. It's a missed penalty, and there's no OFR to get Mariani to review it," he explained bluntly.

The disputed move occurred in the 39th minute, with Juventus up 1-0, at a key moment in the match. Tommasi emphasizes the dynamics and VAR handling: "The images are clear, Bremer's holding is obvious. They could have rolled more cameras. If the review had been done properly, the referee would have been called to see it, especially given the fact that he communicated that he was unable to evaluate it." A move that, according to the former match director, is as significant as, if not more so than, the initial error.

The other contact in the box, between Kalulu and Vergara, has a different interpretation. "It was indeed light, there was a small amount of support. Let's just say there are no clear criteria for a foul," Tommasi clarifies, distinguishing the two incidents that sparked debate in the big match.

The broadcast also analyzes other incidents from the weekend. Regarding Skorupski's red card in the Genoa-Bologna match, the position is clear: "Referee Maresca is drawn to the foul committed by the goalkeeper, and the goalkeeper is out of the goal. However, if we look at the Dogso's parameters, the obviousness, or at least the very clear opportunity to score, isn't there, and the yellow is dismissed as a dangerous challenge. The number of defenders is clearly capable of closing down the attacking player immediately."

There's no doubt about the penalty awarded in Roma-Milan. "Bartesaghi tries to close down the ball late, but his arm is very wide and he makes himself look bigger. He covers a space; this is a legal penalty. He's the one who intervenes late; it's clear he deserves to be penalized." This incident, once again, leaves a trail of controversy and fuels debate over uniformity of judgment and the use of VAR.
