Ottaviano – The silence of the night in the heart of Ottaviano was shattered around 4:00 this morning by a violent explosion. A commando of criminals, composed of several individuals with their faces covered, targeted the post office at Via Luigi Carbone 3, attempting a robbery using the "batto" technique.
The gang's target was the ATM terminal. According to initial reconstructions, the criminals placed an explosive charge inside the machine.
The impact of the explosion was such that it caused significant damage to the external structure of the branch, but the plan did not go as planned: despite the noise and the damage, the bandits were unable to break into the internal safe or withdraw the money.
The alarm was raised immediately, alerting the Carabinieri of the Torre Annunziata Mobile Radio Unit, who arrived on the scene within minutes. The rapid response and, likely, a malfunction in the forced opening mechanism, prompted the criminals to flee through the city streets before patrols could intercept them.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, given the late hour and the absence of passersby. The area was immediately cordoned off and secured.
Specialists from the Torre Annunziata Investigative Unit arrived on site to conduct technical and scientific investigations: they are looking for traces of DNA, fingerprints, or explosive residue that could lead to the identity of the fugitives.
Investigators are now examining footage from the post office's video surveillance cameras and municipal security systems, which may have captured the group's escape route.
Investigations are continuing at a rapid pace to identify what appears to be a professional gang specializing in ATM robberies.

It's incredible how criminals can get this far, but in the end, it seems the bandits weren't very smart, because they didn't manage to take anything. I hope the investigation yields something useful.
