The La Trencia paradox: illegal escalators and endless gridlock.

Lifts have been shut down since the summer, with broken elevators and leaks. Borrelli and Ceparano (AVS): "Citizens held hostage by bureaucracy, ready to protest on January 28th."

Naples – What was supposed to be a glitch lasting a few weeks has turned into yet another monument to urban inefficiency. At the La Trencia Circumflegrea station, in the heart of the Pianura neighborhood, time seems to have stood still since last summer. Since the escalators were sealed off because they were deemed non-compliant, the right to mobility for hundreds of users has become a mirage.

The case raises disturbing questions: how is it possible that systems that have been operating for years are only now being discovered to be "non-compliant"? This question torments commuters and remains unanswered, while employees confirm the forced shutdown. If safety is the priority, the lack of repairs from September to today tells a story of bureaucratic inaction that moves much more slowly than the (already struggling) trains.

An “off-limits” station

The current picture of La Trencia is one of widespread structural degradation:

Architectural barriers: With escalators and elevators out of order, the station is effectively off-limits to disabled people, the elderly, and parents with strollers.

Neglect: Rainwater infiltration and lack of maintenance make the premises unhealthy and unsafe.

Unfinished history: In the background, the ghost of the second track lingers, a fifty-year-old project never completed.

Politicians attack: "Unacceptable bouncing."

MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli and regional councilor Carlo Ceparano (Green-Left Alliance) have responded forcefully to the matter, acting as spokespersons for residents' complaints.

"Turning off systems after years of use without providing a clear timeframe for restoration is a very serious matter," the two AVS representatives denounce. "In La Trencia, residents are paying the price for omissions and buck-passing. They're not asking for favors, but for respect for fundamental rights: safety and accessibility."

The protest on Wednesday

The exasperation on the streets is poised to explode. A protest has been announced for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, right outside the station. The goal is clear: to shake up the regional transport leadership and secure a firm timetable for the end of what many are now calling the Pianura neighborhood's "exile from the tracks."
