Naples – He attempted to smuggle drugs into the prison to deliver them to his imprisoned son, but was discovered by prison officers and arrested. He ended up in a cell at the same facility: the Poggioreale prison in Naples.
The operation concluded with the seizure of approximately 150 grams of narcotics, including hashish and cocaine, intercepted during security checks. The intervention of the officers on duty was crucial, stopping the attempt to smuggle the drugs into the facility.
The USPP (Union of Penitentiary Police) announced the incident. President Giuseppe Moretti and regional secretary Ciro Auricchio expressed their appreciation for the staff's work, emphasizing that "once again, the penitentiary police have demonstrated themselves to be a serious and highly professional body of the state, capable of ensuring legality and safety even in complex situations."
Union leaders also highlighted the serious staffing shortages: Poggioreale prison alone is reportedly short about 150 staff. "Despite these difficulties," Moretti and Auricchio concluded, "the prison police continue to intercept and neutralize attempts to smuggle drugs and cell phones, thanks to their great spirit of sacrifice."

This is a very serious episode and raises questions about the prison situation in Naples, but I don't know if officers alone are enough to stop drugs. There are too many problems within Italian prisons that remain unresolved.
