Pozzuoli – The toast to the new year turned into a bittersweet awakening for the residents of Via Vigna, in the upper part of Pozzuoli.
Taking advantage of the distraction and celebrations of New Year's Eve, a gang of unknown assailants targeted a building in the area, carrying out a double heist that shook the entire neighborhood.
The heist: apartments ransacked
The dynamics are clear: the criminals, acting with extreme coolness and likely after monitoring the residents' movements, managed to enter two apartments located one above the other. Once inside, the bandits operated undisturbed, ransacking every room and completely ransacking the premises in search of cash and valuables.

Making the episode even more heinous is the profile of the victims. Among the affected owners is an elderly pensioner, whose meager family budget has been severely impacted by the theft. Beyond the financial damage, there remains the profound psychological scar of the violation of her domestic privacy, a trauma that weighs far more heavily than the material loss.
The shadow of escalation in the Phlegraean Fields
The incident on Via Vigna is unfortunately not an isolated case, but appears to be part of a growing crime crisis gripping the entire Campi Flegrei area. In recent months, reports of break-ins and attempted thefts have multiplied in Bacoli, Quarto, and Monte di Procida, creating a risk map that worries residents and institutions.
The modus operandi—which exploits moments of collective absence or major holiday events—suggests the actions of professional burglars. Citizens are now calling for increased surveillance and a greater law enforcement presence in the area, especially in the more peripheral or elevated residential areas, often considered easy targets for nocturnal "visits."

I read about the incident on Via Vigna and am very concerned for the safety of our neighborhood. It's unacceptable that people are taking advantage of festive occasions to commit crimes. I hope law enforcement can do more.
