Qualiano – "Social media justice," combined with traditional investigative techniques, has brought closure to a serious episode of urban violence that occurred on New Year's Eve.
The Carabinieri of the Qualiano station have identified and charged three people, believed to be responsible for a brutal attack that occurred during the New Year's celebrations.
The dynamics of the raid
The incident occurred along Via Campana, the main thoroughfare of the town north of Naples. According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the three suspects were setting off a battery of fireworks, occupying the roadway. The fuse of violence was lit when a driver attempted to drive past, "disturbing" the unauthorized fireworks display.
The reaction was immediate and disproportionate: the group surrounded the man, resulting in a three-on-one beating. It was a scene reminiscent of an urban Wild West, in which, according to witness statements and images, one of the attackers even pulled out a weapon to threaten the victim, making the circumstantial evidence even more serious.
The viral video and the investigations
Crucial to identifying the "pack" was an amateur video, likely taken from balconies or by passersby, which quickly circulated online, going viral on platforms like TikTok and local Telegram channels. Those clear and unmistakable images ended up on the Carabinieri's desk.
The officers cross-referenced the social media video with footage from public and private video surveillance systems installed along Via Campana. This comparative analysis allowed them to identify the three attackers in record time. They were charged and released: they will be held accountable for the assault and threats, in a situation aggravated by the trivial motives and the alleged use of a weapon.

Reading the article, I wondered how people could react so violently to a simple disturbance. Authorities should do more to prevent situations like this, especially during the holidays.
