Qualiano - Tension erupted on New Year's Eve in Qualiano, where a group of youths blocked a city street to set off illegal firecrackers, sparking a series of violent incidents that culminated in a display of firearms.
According to footage circulating on social media, a passing motorist, forced to stop, got out of his car, sparking a violent fight with at least three youths. The arrival of another car, from which two people exited to try to separate the two men, seemed to restore calm.
However, the situation quickly escalated. The driver involved in the argument got back into his car and attempted to run over the young men, who then ran back to their car. According to the person who filmed the scene, some of them got out armed with guns and attempted to chase the man, who had since fled.
The video was sent to Green Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli, who described it as "chilling images, a symbol of a total degeneration of civil life."
"A road blocked by illegal firecrackers, a brawl over trivial matters, and guns brandished in the middle of the street on New Year's Eve," he declared, "is a scene straight out of the Wild West, unworthy of a civilized country. Criminal behavior that could have turned tragic in a matter of seconds."
Borrelli called for the images to be used to identify all those responsible and for immediate reinforcement of local controls. "We cannot continue to witness episodes of violence and lawlessness, often in front of families and children. Celebrations can never become an excuse to arm oneself and put the lives of others at risk. There must be only one policy: zero tolerance."

This situation is truly worrying. Young people should celebrate peacefully instead of using weapons and fighting. Violence never leads to anything good. I hope the authorities intervene to stop these things.
