Naples – A robbery in the city center, just steps from the Central Station, prompted immediate intervention by the State Police: a 29-year-old Neapolitan man with a criminal record for robbery and resisting arrest was arrested last night for stealing a cell phone under the pretext of being armed.

The incident occurred near the bus shelter in Piazza Principe Umberto. The victim, a man waiting for public transportation, was approached by the robber, who, pretending to be armed, grabbed his cell phone from him before immediately fleeing.

The man, clearly agitated, stopped a patrol from the Campania Crime Prevention Unit that was passing through the area, providing a detailed description of the criminal and indicating the direction of his escape.

The officers immediately alerted the Operations Room and issued the statement. A few minutes later, the Flying Squad's "Falchi" (hawks), passing by on Via Cesare Carmignano, spotted the suspect. Upon seeing the patrol car, the man attempted to flee despite the order to stop.

A brief but frantic foot chase ensued: the police caught up with him and stopped him, not without difficulty. The stolen cell phone was recovered on the scene and returned to its rightful owner after the necessary checks.

Tests confirmed that the 29-year-old was indeed the perpetrator of the robbery that had occurred shortly before. The young man was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery. He was taken to the police station for formal procedures and placed at the disposal of judicial authorities. The operation—coordinated by the Crime Prevention Unit and the Flying Squad—resolved a predatory crime in record time in one of the most sensitive and high-traffic areas of Naples.
