Salerno – The appeals had been made, clear and repeated. But New Year's Eve in Salerno still turned into a tragedy for a dog from the Torrione neighborhood, who died after suffering a sudden illness caused by the shock of the fireworks that exploded at the start of the new year.

The elderly dog couldn't cope with the stress and the noise. Rescue efforts were futile: the illness was fatal. Antonio Ferrara, secretary of the Torrione Eventi APS association, which has long been engaged in a civilized battle against the indiscriminate use of fireworks, recounts the incident.

"It's shameful," Ferrara complained. "We had launched several appeals to prevent the explosions and protect the animals. These campaigns were also carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Salerno and Salerno Pulita Spa. Unfortunately, all of this wasn't enough."

The incident reignites the debate over the impact of fireworks on pets and strays, often silent victims of the festivities. A death that, according to volunteers, could have been avoided with greater respect for the rules and public awareness.

It's truly sad to hear of a dog dying from firecrackers. I don't understand why people continue to set them off, knowing they can harm animals. We should all do more to protect our four-legged friends.
