Salerno – He was about to leave Italy when he was arrested. A Pakistani businessman living in the province of Salerno, wanted internationally for a double homicide committed in Pakistan, was stopped by the State Police before reaching Naples Capodichino Airport.
The man was the subject of an Interpol "Red Notice" filed at the request of Pakistani authorities. Investigations initiated following the report led to his arrest on the afternoon of January 23, carried out by the Salerno DIGOS (Special Operations Unit) acting on the request of the International Police Cooperation Service and coordinated by the Central Directorate of Prevention Police.
The foreigner was reportedly legally resident in Italy and owned several businesses in the Salerno area. In Pakistan, he was convicted by the Additional District & Sessions Judge of Sarghoda for involvement in the double murder of two fellow Italians.
Investigators located him in a two-family house in the industrial area of Baronissi, surrounded by vegetation, where he had moved a few months earlier. Some family members were also present inside. The officers' intervention prevented his expulsion from Italy: according to investigations, the man was headed to Capodichino Airport to board a flight to another European Union country a few hours later.
According to the documents, he had already been reported in October 2024 by the AISI as a point of reference in Italy for facilitating compatriots interested in obtaining tourist visas, with attention also to individuals considered radicalised and to contexts attributable to religious extremism of a confessional nature.
After his arrest, the Pakistani citizen was taken to Salerno prison and placed at the disposal of the Court of Appeal, which ordered his pre-trial detention pending the completion of the extradition procedure to Pakistan.
