Salerno, discovers the thief in the house and wounds him with a machete

An attempted burglary last night turned violent in Salerno, on Via Ostaglio. A 55-year-old man surprised a burglar attempting to break into his home and stabbed him with a machete after a chase and a struggle.

The alleged thief, a 26-year-old homeless Moroccan man, was struck grazing the chest and is currently hospitalized. His condition is not life-threatening. The Carabinieri have charged him with attempted theft.

Investigators are verifying the reconstruction provided by the 55-year-old Salerno native. According to what has emerged, the young man had already managed to enter a cellar, from which he stole groceries, before being discovered by the homeowner.

Following the alarm, emergency medical services responded to the scene and treated the 26-year-old man. The homeowner, who had suffered minor neck abrasions during the fight, received immediate medical attention. The investigation is continuing to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident and assess any liability for the disproportionate use of force.

It's a situation that makes you think about home security, but I don't know if it's right to use a machete on a burglar. We need more protection for people and less violence in general.
