Sant'Antonio Abate – The black market for weapons is no longer limited to the clandestine exchange of guns and ammunition: when raw materials are scarce, organized crime reinvents itself. Weapons aren't just sought, they're built.

This is the signal coming from the seizure carried out by the Carabinieri of the Sant'Antonio Abate station, who found a veritable arsenal hidden in a backpack abandoned in a lot on Via Nocerelle, at number 72.

This isn't the first time law enforcement has encountered objects designed to kill disguised as something else: in the past, they've seized pen-guns, key rings ready to fire, and seemingly innocuous devices transformed into deadly weapons. But today, the situation is different.

Criminals still need the intimidating force of firepower, the visual impact of a brandished weapon, a symbol of territorial control and domination. This is why the past isn't cast aside: it's adapted.

Inside the backpack, the officers found five pistols without serial numbers. Not "cleaned" weapons, but weapons that never had one. Assembled and modified guns, perfectly functional, crafted by expert hands from components easily found online. Ghost weapons, invisible to tracking systems, yet as lethal as—and more so than—traditional ones.

Along with the guns, a large quantity of ammunition was also found: eight magazines and 273 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, some of which were compatible with war weapons. This cache leaves little doubt as to the final destination of the material: the armed wing of a criminal organization that is changing its appearance but not its targets, aware that gun ownership remains a key element in asserting its presence and strength.

The seized guns will now be subjected to ballistic tests to determine whether they are linked to crimes committed in the area. Investigations are continuing to determine who hid the arsenal and the criminal context for which it was intended. Investigators assure us that the alert remains high: illegal trafficking is evolving, but it continues to represent one of the most concrete threats to security.

The situation with the black market in weapons is very worrying; it's unclear how guns can be manufactured so easily. The law should be stricter to stop this organized crime.
