A protest has been announced at the Santobono Pediatric Hospital, where healthcare workers are scheduled to stage a sit-in on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. against the closure of the employee parking lot. The initiative is being promoted by the FP CGIL Campania, CISL FP, UIL FP, and FIALP unions, who denounce a decision that will have serious consequences for work organization and staff conditions.
According to the unions, this is "a serious and unacceptable decision that will cause significant inconvenience to healthcare workers, who are already subjected to extremely heavy workloads and committed daily to ensuring care and continuity of treatment for young patients." The parking lot closure, according to the announcement, will take effect on January 12th, the date that further fueled the protests.
"We organized this initiative primarily to inform residents of the serious repercussions that could arise from January 12th, the day the hospital management decided to close access to the parking lot," explains Antimo Morlando, Secretary of Public Health for the FP CGIL Campania union. "It's essential to empower doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers to carry out their work with peace of mind and dignity."
The decision was announced on Christmas Eve and is being described by unions as "a truly poisoned gift for workers who, even during the holidays, provide an essential public service with a great sense of responsibility." The parking lot closure particularly affects staff who start work at 7 a.m. to ensure shift changes with their night shift colleagues, jeopardizing work organization and the right to adequate working conditions.
According to worker representatives, this is "a unilateral decision, made without any union consultation or seeking alternative solutions," which demonstrates "a complete lack of concern for those who keep the hospital running every day." Wednesday's sit-in now aims to bring the issue back to the forefront of public debate, demanding concrete answers from Santobono management.

It's a shame that this situation has come to pass. Healthcare workers do a very important job and deserve more attention. We hope management will consider their requests before January 12th.
