Naples – The parking lot reserved for employees of the Santobono Pediatric Hospital, with entrance on Via Mario Fiore, will close starting January 12. The decision, made by the Strategic Management of the Santobono Pausilipon Hospital, is related to the start of long-planned and legally required seismic retrofitting of the buildings.
"No discretion can be applied," the company stated in a statement, "but only to proceed with the completion of the work." The work will render the parking area unusable for approximately four months.

To mitigate the impact on staff, AORN announced a total allocation of approximately €200, after reviewing employee requests, to be used as financial contributions under sustainable mobility plans. The funds will be used to cover part of the costs of public transport passes and park-and-ride parking.

The measure, however, has not quelled the protests. This morning, a sit-in took place in front of the hospital, jointly promoted by FP CGIL Campania, CISL FP, UIL FPL, and FIALS. The unions report serious organizational issues, especially in a neighborhood like Vomero, historically lacking parking spaces, and at a time marked by a sharp increase in admissions for seasonal flu.

According to the unions, the announced contributions do not guarantee either continuity of service or decent working conditions. "Starting January 12th," says Antimo Morlando, Secretary of Public Health at FP CGIL Campania, "the closure of the parking lot will have serious repercussions. Doctors and nurses, already under heavy workloads, cannot be asked to also deal with impossible daily logistics."

The unions are calling for immediate alternative solutions, warning that staff access difficulties could result in poor service for users and a worsening of healthcare conditions.

The decision to close the parking lot seems a bit strange to me, especially in a place like Vomero where there aren't many spaces. I hope they find a solution quickly and that the contributions are useful for everyone.
