Scafati – An argument escalated into a brawl, followed by a gunshot. This, according to initial investigations, is the background to the wounding of a 21-year-old man from Scafati, AP, who was shot in the chest late Saturday evening in the city center.
The young man was with friends near the Pepe bar on Corso Nazionale, a popular area for young people and the hub of weekend nightlife, when he was injured. He was rescued and rushed to the emergency room of Umberto I Hospital in Nocera Inferiore, where he arrived shortly after midnight with a gunshot wound. Fortunately, his condition is not serious: the bullet did not hit any vital organs and did not penetrate deeply.
The investigation revealed that the 21-year-old was injured by a shot fired from a .22 caliber pistol. A small-caliber weapon, the spent cartridge case was found by the Carabinieri along the roadway, right near the bar where the young man was standing at the time of the incident. At the hospital, the young man was sedated and underwent surgery overnight to remove the bullet, which remained lodged in his muscle tissue.
The investigation has been entrusted to the Carabinieri of the Nocera Inferiore territorial unit. In the hours following the injury, the officers acquired and analyzed footage from private surveillance cameras in the area, which confirmed the hypothesis of a fight between several young people outside the bar. It was during those tense moments that the gunshot was reportedly fired.
Yesterday afternoon, the 21-year-old was interviewed by investigators, but he did not provide any decisive evidence to reconstruct the incident. However, crucial evidence has been provided by security camera footage, which is now being examined along with images from the municipal video surveillance system.
Investigators are trying to reconstruct the exact sequence of events, identify all participants in the brawl, and, most importantly, identify who grabbed the gun and fired it, clarifying the motive behind the shot. This incident rekindles concerns about safety in nightlife areas and the escalation of violence among young people.
