A municipal area transformed into an illegal mechanic's shop, complete with vehicles being repaired, hazardous waste, and clandestine utility connections. This was discovered in Scampia, near Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, during a joint operation involving the Naples Local Police, Carabinieri from the Scampia station, the Naples Local Health Authority (ASL Napoli 1), and technicians from ABC and Enel.
The intervention was triggered after a detailed report indicating the presence of illegal activity within an area of approximately 140 square meters, which was found to be municipal property. The space was closed off by a gate, preventing access. With no one present, Municipal Police officers, with the authorization of the public prosecutor on duty, requested the intervention of Napoli Servizi to force entry and conduct an investigation.
Inside, a scene of severe environmental degradation and widespread lawlessness was revealed. Ten cars and three motorcycles were found, most of which had been repaired, along with numerous engine parts, stacked tires, and significant quantities of used oil from mechanical processes. A masonry structure measuring approximately 40 square meters, built without permits and used as a restroom, was also found.
Technical investigations also uncovered illegal connections to both the electricity and water grids, resulting in the theft of energy and water. The entire area, along with the equipment and materials found, has been seized. A criminal report has been filed against unknown persons, alleging, among other violations, illegal occupation of public land, illegal waste management, and construction of unauthorized buildings. Further investigations are currently underway to identify the managers of the business and the owners of the vehicles found inside the ghost workshop.
