A mechanical workshop of approximately 1,000 square meters was seized in San Nicola la Strada by the Caserta Provincial Police, as part of the joint operations of the "Land of Fires" project, coordinated by the Prefecture. The operation was conducted by officers led by Colonel Biagio Chiariello, the newly appointed commander of the Corps.

During inspections of the facility, which is used for vehicle repairs, serious environmental irregularities were discovered. Specifically, operators discovered the illegal release of wastewater into both the sewer system and the atmosphere, resulting in pipe and air pollution.

The violations found to the Consolidated Environmental Act led to the seizure of the entire area, within which there were numerous vehicles undergoing repairs.

Further administrative irregularities were discovered. The owners of the vehicles in the workshop were fined for lack of insurance coverage, with fines totaling up to €36. Critical issues also arose in waste management: the traceability register was found to be aberrant, and the owner was assessed an administrative fine of €5.

During the inspection, two dogs were also found, kept in kennels in conditions deemed inadequate. The competent veterinary services were therefore contacted to carry out the necessary checks.

The municipal offices responsible for preventing illegal construction and the One-Stop Shop for Productive Activities (SUAP), already informed of the operation, will now have to verify any further irregularities in terms of urban planning and construction.

The owner of the auto repair shop, a fifty-year-old local resident, has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere for environmental violations. The tax authorities have also been informed of the matter, in relation to alleged tax evasion that emerged during inspections.

The police operation was necessary to ensure public health. However, I wonder how a workshop of this size can operate without adequate controls. Stricter measures are needed to prevent these abuses.
