Capua – The fight against environmental crimes in the Land of Fires continues unabated. The Caserta Provincial Police, led by Colonel Biagio Chiariello, conducted a raid in the Sant'Agata district of Capua, supported by Italian Army soldiers from the 8th "Campania" Regiment. The officers inspected a mechatronics workshop run by a man in his 60s, a local resident and already known to law enforcement for property crimes (receiving stolen goods).

The documentation submitted regarding waste treatment and disposal was found to be seriously irregular: the owner was charged with administrative fines totaling over €5.000. The investigation, which began with the initial inconsistencies discovered, led the operators to inspect several nearby boxes, which could be traced back to the same individual.

Inside, large quantities of hazardous waste were discovered: asbestos cement sheets (Eternit) piled up on roofs, auto parts, abandoned vehicles, used batteries, used oil, and other hazardous materials, all held without authorization and clearly destined for illegal disposal.

The entire area has been placed under preventive seizure. The person responsible has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere for the crimes of illegal waste disposal and abandonment (Articles 256 and 260 of the Consolidated Environmental Act). The following authorities have been alerted for their areas of responsibility: the Municipality of Capua (Office for the Prevention of Illegal Building and SUAP) for structural and administrative irregularities;

the ASL for the presence of asbestos and the related health risks;
ACER, the public housing agency, for the critical issues that have emerged in the popular context.

During the operation, checks were also carried out on several vehicles in the area, aimed at identifying any irregular waste transportation. This operation confirms the ongoing commitment of the forces in the field—in collaboration with the Army—to crack down on practices that endanger public health and the environment in one of the most sensitive areas of Campania.

Waste control is important, but greater vigilance and prevention are needed to prevent similar incidents from recurring. Penalties should be more severe, and authorities should be more proactive in monitoring the situation.
