Salerno – Finance police from the Naples Naval Air Operations Department seized 300 kilograms of fish products this morning in the immediate vicinity of the Salerno fish market. The catch, valued at approximately €6,000, lacked labeling or any traceability information, making it potentially unsafe for human consumption, according to local health authority veterinarians.
The operation was conducted by officers from the Salerno Naval Operations Section with the support of veterinary staff from the local health authority. During a roadside check, the finance police intercepted a vehicle transporting the illegal catch. The products were immediately seized and sent for destruction by order of the health authority.
The legal representatives of two fishing companies have been fined. One of the companies had previously been fined for similar violations, highlighting the recurrence of irregularities in the sector.
The move is part of the intensified economic and financial police efforts to protect consumer health. The Guardia di Finanza (Financial Police) has announced that these controls will continue rigorously to ensure compliance with industry regulations, which include stringent provisions to protect citizens and the legal market.
