Giovanni Marchionni, the 21-year-old skipper from Bacoli, found dead on August 8th aboard a yacht docked in the Marina di Portisco, Olbia, may have been killed by an invisible and lethal gas. According to reports from forensic examinations, the cause of death appears to be hydrogen sulfide poisoning, a highly toxic substance that can be fatal even in high concentrations and in enclosed spaces.

The findings are expected to come from the autopsy report and the toxicological and histological tests submitted in recent days to the Tempio Pausania Public Prosecutor's Office, where Prosecutor Milena Aucone is coordinating a manslaughter investigation currently against unknown persons. If the findings are officially confirmed, the investigation could undergo a significant breakthrough, also in light of the technical inspections conducted in recent months on the vessel, which is still under seizure. Initially, it was assumed that the death could be linked to fumes from the onboard chemical toilet, but the picture now appears different and more definite.

"We learned from our consultants that the results of the technical tests suggest hydrogen sulfide poisoning as the cause of death, which would confirm the hypotheses we had formulated from the very beginning," stated lawyers Maurizio Capozzo and Gabriele Satta, representing the young man's family. "We will be able to obtain further details only after receiving a copy of the expert report, but this news, combined with the results of the other tests carried out on the vessel, is beginning to paint a much clearer picture of the incident. We hope the prosecutor's office will shed full light on those responsible for the young man's death."

The Municipality of Bacoli, the 21-year-old's hometown, is also taking action in the case. Mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione announced he will join the civil action in the upcoming trial. "Giovanni wasn't in Sardinia for a vacation with friends or to stay in a luxury hotel; they found him dead in the same place where those called to work on a yacht are made to sleep. Giovanni died like that, from inhaling acid in a cramped space. Now it's up to the Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office to tell us the truth."

"It wasn't chance, it wasn't a sudden illness or the result of a wild night, because this too was said in those hours of great collective grief. An absolute disgrace. Now tell us why he died and if there is responsibility, if it was a workplace death, without any protection," adds the mayor. "In this trial, we will join the civil action alongside Giovanni's family. We will do so without hesitation, to convey to them the deepest sympathy of the people of Bacoleo, who have lost one of their sons. We will not allow anyone to deny the truth."

Giovanni's death is truly tragic and raises questions about the possible causes of accidents like this. The idea that it could have been caused by a toxic gas is deeply troubling. I hope this matter is clarified as soon as possible.
