Naples – A clean hole in a high-rise window, a bullet found on the floor, and a disturbing suspicion about the true nature of the attack. On January 2nd, a gunshot struck the offices of the Attorney General's Office at the Centro Direzionale in Naples.
The incident, reported today by Il Mattino and Repubblica, immediately triggered security protocols at the Palace of Justice.
The dynamics and the reliefs
The bullet struck the glass of Tower C, on the twelfth floor of the building. This is a sensitive level: the office of Attorney General Aldo Policastro is located there, among other buildings.
According to initial findings by the Forensic Police, the shot was likely fired from a rifle, but ballistic tests are still underway to precisely determine the caliber and trajectory.
The State Police, coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor's Office, is investigating the incident. However, the case may soon be transferred to their colleagues in Rome, who have jurisdiction by law (pursuant to Article 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure) when Neapolitan magistrates are listed as injured parties.

The hypotheses: targeted attack or New Year's Eve madness?
Investigators are maintaining the utmost secrecy, but the current leading theory remains that it was a New Year's Eve celebration. The shot may have been fired on New Year's Eve, falling on the tower after a "stray" arc.
Although the high altitude makes the impact unusual, investigators are also considering more complex scenarios, such as the use of a modified drone, although this hypothesis is considered less likely.
Previous events on the same night
The climate of tension is fueled by other similar incidents that occurred on the same festive night. The windows of the EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno) headquarters were also found to be pierced by bullets.
The phenomenon of firearms being used to "celebrate" the start of the year continues to pose a threat to the city's security, and this time, it has even reached the highest levels of the Campania judiciary.

I find this article a bit confusing because it doesn't fully explain how a gunshot could hit such a prominent building. Security needs to be stronger in situations like this.
