Safety work has begun on the Amalfi Coast Highway following the collapse of several rocks from a retaining wall in Salicerchie, in the municipality of Maiori. The incident occurred late on Tuesday evening, January 6th, necessitating the closure of the road, which is essential for traffic along the coast.
The Municipality of Maiori announced that "technical surveys were carried out this morning by a geologist, along with further checks already scheduled after the initial inspections." The assessments, the statement continues, "did not reveal any substantial critical issues beyond those already identified," thus allowing immediate action to begin.
Safety operations began during the day and are expected to continue tomorrow. The municipal administration emphasizes that "these activities are part of the rapid emergency management efforts initiated in the early hours following the event, to ensure adequate safety conditions for traffic as quickly as possible."
The goal is clear and stated: "The reopening of the Amalfi State Road by the weekend, subject to the completion of the scheduled work." The Municipality assures that "further updates will follow regarding the progress of the work" to officially announce the restoration of traffic on one of the most sensitive and strategic stretches of the Campania road network.

I hope the work on the Amalfi Coast highway proceeds smoothly. It's important that safety comes first, but I also hope the closure doesn't last too long to avoid inconvenience to residents and tourists.
