Salerno – A morning of fire and heavy traffic disruptions for Salerno. A serious traffic accident occurred along the Salerno Ring Road (SS18), at kilometer marker 62, transforming a normal stretch of road into a sudden emergency.
Three vehicles were involved in a violent collision, the exact circumstances of which are still being investigated by the competent authorities. To make matters worse, one of the vehicles involved caught fire immediately after the collision, requiring immediate emergency response to put out the flames and prevent further damage.
Traffic jams and alternative routes
To allow for safety operations and debris removal, authorities have ordered the complete closure of the roadway towards Pontecagnano/A2. Vehicle traffic, currently blocked, has been diverted onto secondary roads: for those heading south, the mandatory exit has been established at the Salerno/Zona Industriale junction.
Anas staff and law enforcement teams promptly responded to the scene. The primary objective, in addition to the necessary surveys to reconstruct the chain of events, is to expedite the cleanup of the road surface, compromised by the vehicle fire, to restore full trafficability to the arterial road as quickly as possible.
