NAPLES – Temporary disruptions to the Vesuvian lines to allow for testing of the new Stadler trains, scheduled to enter service in the coming months. The Ente Autonomo Volturno has announced changes to rail services that will result in the cancellation of 66 trains over the course of a week, equivalent to approximately 4 percent of the total daily connections.

The tests, EAV clarifies, cannot be conducted at night because they require the infrastructure to be fully operational, with stations open, level crossings active, and regular traffic on all lines. This technical decision inevitably impacts regular service, but is deemed necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the new trains.

The service suspensions will affect several strategic sections of the Vesuvian network for several days, with scheduled stops in the afternoon and evening hours until the end of service. To limit inconvenience to commuters, EAV has scheduled replacement buses during the affected time slots, ensuring alternative connections between the affected stations.

The Campania Region's public transport company emphasizes that this is a temporary sacrifice, aimed at renewing the rolling stock and improving overall service quality. It is therefore a necessary step to bring more modern, efficient, and comfortable trains to the Vesuvian lines, even if it means a few days of disruption for travelers.

It's a bit disappointing that there's so much traffic disruption. I understand it's because of the new trains, but I was hoping there wouldn't be so many cancellations. Commuters need better solutions.
