The shooting that injured two young people on the night between Saturday and Sunday in the Sanità neighborhood remains a serious incident, striking at the very heart of the city's sense of security. But the state's response, as Naples Prefect Michele di Bari assures, is there and already underway. The Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety met inside the Church of San Vincenzo in the very neighborhood where the incident occurred, in a highly symbolic decision.

"This is a tragic event, and words must be carefully considered," the prefect emphasized, while also noting that the data portray a less alarming reality than it might appear. The crime rate related to robberies, he explained, has dropped by 50 percent, although incidents like the recent one inevitably shatter citizens' sense of tranquility. Precisely for this reason, he added, extraordinary enforcement services have already been activated, with increased local operations.

The Sanità district, he reiterated, is already a heavily policed area in Bari, but it will be even more so. This neighborhood isn't seen simply as a critical area, but rather as a space where a broader response, based on prevention and culture, is being developed. The police presence is complemented by social work involving associations, young people, and civic groups, transforming the area into a hub for participation and revitalization.

"There's a great synergy between prevention and culture here," the prefect explained, emphasizing how dozens of young people at the Sanità district have stepped up to restore value to the neighborhood. This is a sign that transcends the emergency and strengthens the bond between institutions and citizens. "We stand with the people who live here," he concluded, affirming the state's commitment to a neighborhood that, despite its scars, continues to contribute so much to Naples.

It's a shame there were shots fired in a place like Sanità; people are scared now. The prefect says the numbers are good, but I don't know if that's true. Let's hope the police do their job.
