In the silence of the Paestum cemetery, where respect for the deceased is sacred, a man has shattered this delicate balance, taking away not only objects, but also the serenity of a community.

CAPACCIO PAESTUM – Tomb defamation, aggravated theft, and damage: these are the charges brought against AS, who was placed under house arrest by the Salerno investigating judge following an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to the prosecution's reconstruction, the man is responsible for a series of raids on the Paestum cemetery between October and November of last year, during which he stole numerous ornamental objects from the funerary chapels. The investigative operations, conducted by the Carabinieri of Capaccio-Paestum together with their colleagues from Perdifumo, led to the recovery and seizure of several of the stolen artifacts, helping to reconstruct the extent of the thefts.

The arrest represents the culmination of an investigative effort that has shed light on a phenomenon that has sparked outrage in the local community, highlighting the need for greater protection of sacred sites and cultural heritage in the area.

What happened in the Paestum cemetery is truly unacceptable. It's sad to see how some people can disrespect the deceased and those who love them. We hope that justice will take its course.
