Marcianise – A routine land patrol turned into an operation to combat environmental crimes. The Marcianise Carabinieri Forestry Unit, along Provincial Road 335, intercepted a truck loaded with waste, clearly visible on the cargo bed and contained in different-colored bags, traveling in broad daylight from the town of Marcianise toward Santa Maria Capua Vetere.

The vehicle not authorized for transport

After stopping the vehicle, the officers immediately determined that the truck was not registered in the National Register of Environmental Managers, a mandatory requirement for waste transportation. This circumstance effectively rendered the driver's activity unauthorized.

The typology of waste found

Inspection of the cargo allowed the identification of the nature of the materials transported. The bags placed at the top of the container contained non-hazardous textile waste. Beneath them, however, were numerous heterogeneous waste items: non-hazardous WEEE such as tape recorders, DVD players, hair dryers, irons, and remote controls; plastic waste including synthetic plants and broken basins; as well as electrical cables and other waste material.

The connection with a construction company

Investigations revealed that the truck was registered to a company whose primary business was construction work. The total amount of waste transported was estimated at approximately 450 kilograms.

Seizure of the vehicle and reporting of the driver

Based on the evidence gathered, the Carabinieri Forestale charged the driver with the crime of illegal management of non-hazardous waste, consisting of loading and transporting it using an unauthorized vehicle. The truck and the entire load of waste were subsequently seized, while the driver was reported at large.
h3Driving license also withdrawn

As required by the recently updated Consolidated Environmental Act, the officers also proceeded to withdraw the driver's driving license, applying the additional penalty provided for by current legislation.

I read the article and it seems strange to me that a truck could transport waste without a permit. There should be more controls to prevent these situations. Even non-hazardous materials must be handled properly for safety.
