Siena – Yet another scam involving the so-called fake accident involving an elderly person has ended with a double arrest. Late in the afternoon of Thursday, January 8, Carabinieri from the Siena Provincial Command's Investigative Unit arrested two men, both residents of the province of Naples, who were caught red-handed after defrauding an 83-year-old woman.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the two had implemented one of the most common techniques in the world of elderly scams. One of them, posing as a Carabinieri officer, had contacted the victim by phone, claiming that a vehicle registered to her had been involved in a serious traffic accident.
To avoid alleged legal consequences, the elderly woman had been induced to hand over money and jewelry to a self-styled expert charged with resolving the situation.
