Orta di Atella – A joint operation between the local station and the Marcianise Forestry Department dismantled an illegal waste disposal facility in the heart of Orta di Atella. The operation culminated in the arrest of a 52-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement, who was charged with illegal hazardous waste management.
The “warehouse” of environmental horrors
During a search of the area, which covers approximately 320 square meters and is divided into two warehouses, the Carabinieri discovered what can be described as a veritable toxic waste warehouse. Inside the workshop, which was found to be completely illegal, were stored:
Mechanical parts of vehicles saturated with used oil; discarded, highly polluting lead-acid batteries; waste fluids from oil separation plants.
Disaster in public pipelines
The most alarming finding from the technical surveys concerns the disposal of waste industrial oils. According to the military's findings, some of these toxic substances were being dumped directly into the public sewer system, posing serious risks to the local ecosystem and the integrity of the purification plants.
In addition to the criminal seizure of the entire structure and the materials found, the man was also given a hefty administrative fine. Failure to maintain a waste loading and unloading register will cost him €4.133,30.
The 52-year-old is currently under house arrest, awaiting a judicial validation hearing. This operation is part of a broader environmental monitoring effort conducted by the Caserta Provincial Command to combat environmental crimes in the area.
