It was a busy night between Villaricca and Scampia, where Carabinieri from the Villaricca station arrested a 26-year-old for resisting a public officer after a chase that lasted approximately six kilometers, made even more dangerous by the pouring rain.
It all began in Villaricca, near McDonald's, where a Toyota Aygo, stopped but with its engine running, attracted the attention of the police. There were three people in the car. Upon seeing the Audi, the driver ignored the stop sign and sped off, nearly hitting a pedestrian.
A high-tension chase ensued, involving reckless maneuvers, wrong-way driving, and adverse weather conditions. The chase ended in Scampia, in the Don Guanella neighborhood, where the car stopped on Via Labriola and the three occupants attempted to flee on foot.
He had tools for car thefts
The Carabinieri managed to apprehend one of the fugitives, Alessandro Russo, 26, already known to law enforcement, and he was arrested. Inside his backpack, they found control units, flex cables, and other material believed to be linked to car thefts.
The Toyota Aygo has been seized, while searches are underway to identify and arrest the two accomplices who managed to escape.

The young man's arrest was significant, as car thefts have been on the rise lately, but it's unclear why the chase lasted so long. I hope the accomplices are found soon.
