Vote-buying: Regional Councilor Zannini and former Councilor Esposito investigated for corruption.

The Santa Maria Capua Vetere prosecutor's office is suggesting a deal: votes in the 2025 regional elections in exchange for the hiring of a nephew at a joint venture. This is the third investigation for the Forza Italia regional councilor.

A new legal storm has erupted for Forza Italia regional councilor Giovanni Zannini from Campania. The Public Prosecutor's Office in Santa Maria Capua Vetere today served summonses to appear before both Zannini and former Caserta councilor and city councilor Biagio Esposito. Both are under investigation for corruption, specifically for alleged vote-buying during last November's regional elections.

The investigation, coordinated by prosecutor Pierpaolo Bruni and conducted by prosecutors Giacomo Urbano and Anna Ida Capone, reconstructs an electoral pact. According to investigators, before the November 2025 regional elections (in which Zannini was re-elected with over 20.000 votes), Biagio Esposito promised the councilor his and his network's electoral support.

In exchange, Zannini allegedly guaranteed the hiring of Esposito's nephew, Angelo Pasquariello, in a company owned by local authorities over which the Forza Italia representative could exert influence.

According to the accusations, the deal wasn't just a promise. Esposito allegedly urged the young man's hiring even before the election, and began working as early as September 2025 to drum up support for Zannini, confirming his role as a "grand elector" in the councilor's previous campaigns.

This new proceeding adds to an already challenging legal landscape for Giovanni Zannini. It is, in fact, the third investigation opened against him by the Santa Maria Capua Vetere Prosecutor's Office.

The councilor is already facing a prison warrant for corruption, extortion, and aggravated fraud. Furthermore, in recent days, his name has already surfaced in another investigation into alleged vote-buying in the Castel Volturno municipal elections of June 2024.

The new summons casts a further shadow over the regional political class and rekindles the spotlight on patronage practices. Zannini and Esposito will now have to provide their versions to magistrates who are about to evaluate the next step in the investigation.
