Special checks in the Caserta area. Yesterday evening, Carabinieri from the Casal di Principe Company arrested a 48-year-old local man, already known to law enforcement, on charges of possession with intent to distribute narcotics. The operation is part of an information-investigative effort aimed at combating drug trafficking in the area.

The check and the search

The man was spotted around 7:00 PM leaving his home and getting into his Volkswagen Polo. After a short drive, he abruptly changed direction upon seeing a Carabinieri patrol car. Stopped on Via Macario, he immediately appeared nervous. He denied having any illegal substances, and the officers decided to conduct a thorough search.

The discovery was made inside the passenger compartment: in the driver's seat backrest, a well-hidden package contained 45 grams of cocaine. The wallet also contained €70 in cash, divided into small bills, believed to be the proceeds of the illegal activity.

Investigations revealed that the 48-year-old had a prior criminal record and was under a precautionary measure requiring him to remain at home overnight in the municipality of Casal di Principe. He was also charged with driving without a license, which he had never obtained.

Given the quantity of drugs seized and the manner in which they were concealed, the Carabinieri arrested him in flagrante delicto. The man was taken to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where he is now under the jurisdiction of the judicial authorities of North Naples.

It's a situation that makes us reflect on how widespread the drug problem is, even in places like Caserta. The Carabinieri do an important job, but more prevention is needed to prevent these incidents.
